FRAGMENT field campaign to investigate mineral dust emission processes

A group of researchers led by EMIT Co-I Carlos Pérez García-Pando (Barcelona Supercomputing Center) are preparing to use the new surface mineralogy information from EMIT. FRAGMENT, a project funded by a European Research Council Consolidator Grant, is deploying instruments to dust-forming regions in order to better understand the particle size distribution of emitted dust and its relationship with the parent soil. Researchers will use this information to refine models of mineralogy’s role in mineral dust and its climate impacts.
