The Vapor Inside-cloud Profiling Radar (VIPR) is a 159-175 GHz differential absorption radar that retrives absolute humidity inside of clouds and precipitation. It provides high-vertical-resolution water vapor soundings within the planetary boundary layer.

Importantly, VIPR implements for the first time the differential absorption radar (DAR) approach to provide sounding within the cloudy and precipitating volumes.
